You are invited to the launch of a new book!
April 6, 2016  from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Dr. Richard LongeneckerDr. Longenecker came to Wycliffe College in 1972 as professor of New Testament, where he taught until 1995.  During his career he has authored numerous books and articles, and directed many students on their way to scholarly ministry in Canada and abroad.

Very soon, Dr. Longenecker’s Commentary on the Epistle to the Romans will be published, no doubt the culmination of a lifetime of prayer, study and reflection. To mark this occasion Wycliffe College will sponsor a Book Launch with Dr. Longenecker present with us. We would be delighted if you would join us on this occasion.

The date is Wednesday, April 6, from 1 to 3 pm. A light lunch will be served, followed by presentations, tributes and the official launch. Then at 2 pm one of Dr. Longenecker’s sons, Bruce, himself a professor of the New Testament at Baylor University, Texas, will deliver an illustrated lecture on “The Cross before Constantine: Some Artifacts.”

Please mark this Book Launch in your calendar; if you are unable to attend, a written greeting would be welcomed. And kindly indicate your intention of joining us by replying to the address below. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff and students, I look forward to welcoming you to Wycliffe on April 6, to celebrate with Richard Longenecker.

Yours sincerely in Christ,

Some words from our Faculty

"It was a blessed day when Wycliffe hooked Dick into accepting a professorship, and he was one of the key scholars on our faculty who really added to the international academic profile of the college, as well as the TST in general.  Through his books and articles, his supervisions of doctoral theses, his many speaking engagements around the world, his course teaching, his relationships with other scholars, and the quality of his Christian character, he has had an immense influence for the good on Biblical studies.  The completion of his commentary on Romans will seal that influence for many generations."

Dr. Alan Hayes

The “New Perspective” on Paul might be generally identified with E. P. Sanders and James Dunn; the idea that a key phrase in Paul’s letters should be translated as “the faithfulness of Jesus” rather than “faith in Jesus” might be widely associated with Richard Hays. But significant aspects of both were already present in Richard Longenecker’s pioneering work Paul, Apostle of Liberty (1964). During his almost quarter-century at Wycliffe College, his ongoing study of Paul helped to shape the thinking of several generations of Christian leaders and scholars. It is very fitting, then, that Wycliffe should celebrate the publication of his long-awaited commentary on Romans, the culmination of a life-long engagement with the thought of the Apostle Paul.
