Statement of the Anglican Communion Institute, 19 June 2006
ACI hopes to respond to the Windsor-related resolutions in the form in which they are finally accepted by the General Convention. We will do so as soon as we are able.
In the meantime, we wish to express our deep concern over the potential negative significance for the Windsorprocess of +Katherine Jefferts Schori's election as PB.
In the light of the public statements and actions of +K. Jefferts Schori:
voting in support of +VG Robinson and continuing to defend her vote and his episcopacy
backing same-sex blessings at General Convention 2003
developing formal permission for such celebrations to take place in the Diocese of Nevada since 2003
defending the autonomy of TEC in a way that stands counter to the WR's articulation of communion
we are obliged to call upon +K. Jefferts Schori to repudiate these actions. Lacking this, her place in Primatialmeetings within the Communion is clearly in doubt, and her ability to lead The Episcopal Church as a member of the Anglican Communion is deeply in question.
This would mean that a state of paralysis now exists in respect to the place of TEC in the Anglican Communion. Only a formal repudiation on the part of +K. Jefferts Schori can alter this.
Urgently we call upon her to make a public statement to this effect. In Christ,
ACI
