Free Electives
- Students can take up to 8 free electives, either through Wycliffe College, or any other Toronto School of Theology member college.
- The full biblical language track can be completed using 6 credits, with language classes counting toward the required NT and OT electives in the core curriculum.
Residence Requirement
The MDiv requires two semesters of full time in-person study. Alternatively, if a student has maintained at least three courses per fall and winter semester from the beginning of their program, and been actively involved in chapel groups and the life of the college, this will also fulfil the residency requirement.
Eligibility
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from an accredited college or university with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 (or equivalent).
English proficiency
Students who have not completed a previous degree in English must demonstrate proficiency through a recognized language exam. For more information, see our international students page or contact our admissions office.

The Master of Divinity can be completed in 3 years of full-time study or extended up to 8 years, depending on your pace and needs.*
Master of Divinity - In-Person (30 credits - up to 10 credits online)
- Robust In-Person Experience: Engage in two semesters of full-time, in-person study, gaining 8 or more credits while fully immersing yourself in the vibrant community with daily chapel services, and rigorous academic environment. Complete the rest of study at your own pace through part-time or full-time study.*
- Flexible Online Options: Enjoy the convenience of up to 10 credits (1/3 of your coursework) online, balancing your studies with personal and professional commitments.
Master of Divinity - Hybrid (MDivH, 30 credits - up to 20 credits online)
- Foundational Engagement: Immerse yourself in two semesters of full-time, in-person study, earning 8 credits while deeply connecting with the worshiping community through daily chapel in a challenging academic setting.
- Enhanced Flexibility: Complete between 11 and 20 credits online, giving you the freedom to tailor your coursework to fit your lifestyle and needs.*
Combined MDiv/MTS
It is possible to combine your MDiv with an MTS or MTSD. Contact the admissions office for more information.

Qualifying for Doctoral Study
Students who achieve an "A-" average and develop an academic focus with a thesis during their program may use the MDiv to qualify for doctoral (PhD) study at the Toronto School of Theology.*
Applicants to the PhD program must provide evidence of reading competence in a minimum of one ancient or modern language necessary for their field of research. See more details here. You can take language courses as free electives during the MDiv program in consultation with your faculty advisor.
*Note that the DMin has different entry requirements.
