Chukwuemeka A. Onwuchekwa
MDiv, 2023 (expected)
I am a compassionate person. Helping to reduce suffering and meeting the needs of other people—in whatever ways I can—keeps my oil of gladness ever burning.
Shortly after graduating as an optometrist in Nigeria, I got a contract offer to work in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2015. By the end of 2016, I lost my joy related to my work there despite its financial rewards. Each passing day, the only word I heard when I knelt to pray was, “It's time to leave."
Long before I went to Wycliffe, I had no doubt that God wanted to use me to impact my generation; however, I knew not where nor how to start. On a certain day, as I opened my computer for a search, Wycliffe popped up on my screen. My heart and mind never rested until I contacted Wycliffe, and that was how my journey began.
Currently, I am in the second year of my MDiv. "Life Together," "Forgiveness and Reconciliation," and "History of Christianity" are just some of the theological classes that have had a tremendous impact on me. "The Holy Spirit: Exploring Pneumatology" has been helpful in developing my theological reasoning, and my writing skills. Wycliffe has provided me with a clearer picture of my future direction: service, teaching, and writing.
Wycliffe is a great community of diverse people where the humanity and capacity in each person are emphasized rather than a person’s colour or where they come from. Both the academic and non-academic staff of the College have been outstanding in helping students succeed.
