THE NEED

Advances in science, medicine, and technology continue to outpace the Church’s ability to offer biblically grounded and theologically rigorous responses to pressing public issues from medical assistance in dying (MAID), artificial intelligence and abortion, to human sexuality, and gender.

The space for Christian ethics in public discourse continues to shrink while legal and societal expectations suggest that professionals comply with mandates that may conflict with personal beliefs and moral convictions.  

THE RESPONSE

Wycliffe College is sensing an institutional calling to address the profound need to equip Christians with the resources to navigate today’s complex moral landscape.

Its historic engagement in Christian ethics—including the legacy of celebrated ethicist Oliver O’Donovan—situates the College at the forefront of an urgent mission: to provide thought leadership in Christian ethics on contemporary issues in medicine, technology, public policy, and society.

THE VISION

This initiative will see an Institute for Christian Ethics formed at Wycliffe that provides moral and ethical frameworks while building professional and academic capacity in the following ways:

  • Public witness – fostering a trusted Christian voice that offers clarity and conviction in challenging conversations.
  • Professional resources – providing thought leadership and practical tools to navigate daily moral dilemmas to Christian professionals, especially those in healthcare, business and law.
  • Academic development – building a robust academic tradition in Christian ethics through rigorous scholarship and interdisciplinary collaboration, providing both academic programs and professional outputs.
  • Personal guidance – empowering Christians to apply their beliefs and moral convictions in their everyday lives.

Ways to Pledge

  • A pledge commitment: contact our Development Office to discuss your pledge. You can make your commitment over three to five years.
  • Planned gifts or securities: consider including Wycliffe in your estate planning or donating appreciated securities. Contact us for more details.
  • One-time gifts: we welcome and appreciate one-time contributions.
