Former College Librarian Named 2023-2024 Honorary Alumnus

Description automatically generatedThe 2024 designation of Honorary Alumnus has been granted to Cindy Derrenbacker, the former librarian of Wycliffe College.

She is currently the librarian at Whitley College in Victoria, Australia, where husband Bob is currently the Dean of Trinity Theological College.

Cindy has worked for several theological colleges in Canada, the American Theological Library Association, and also undertaken theological study at Wheaton College in Illinois and Regent College in Vancouver.

She participated closely in the planning, design and administration of an award-winning new library facility for the School of Architecture at Laurentian University

 

The Wycliffe College Alumni Association presents members of the College and Church community with the distinction of being an honorary alumnus in recognition for their contributions to Wycliffe, College community, and/or Church.

Rev. Canon Clifford Dee

Rev. Canon Clifford Dee was the 2023-2024 was recently awarded the Archdeacon Harry St. Clair Hilchey Alumni Award for Distinguished Service.

Clifford has been involved in training in the Moosonee School of Ministry and has represented the School for many years on the Ontario Provincial Commission on Theological Education.

He graduated from Wycliffe College with a Master of Divinity in 1984 and is now retired, living in Waswanipi, a Cree community in the Eeyou Istchee territory of Central Quebec. Since his graduation, he has spent nearly the entirety of his career in the North, where he learned the Cree language.

The award is presented each year to one Alumnus of Wycliffe College who has distinguished themselves in service to the Alumni Association, Wycliffe College and/or the Church.

Honorary Degree Recipients 2024: Shaila Visser and Rev. Canon Barry Parker

Shaila Vesser and Rev. Dr. Barry Parker were awarded honorary degrees from Wycliffe College during the 2024 Convocation Ceremony May 13 in Sheraton Hall.

For the past two decades, Shaila has provided leadership to Alpha—the church-based program known around the world for introducing people to the Christian faith. National Director of Alpha Canada and Global Senior Vice-president for Alpha International, Shaila is a gifted communicator and addressed the graduating class of 2024. She received the honorary degree of Doctor of Sacred Letters (honoris causa).

Barry is best known for serving 22 years as rector of St. Paul’s Bloor Street, but he has given a lifetime of service to the church in Canada, beginning in rural Alberta in 1986. He has taught at Wycliffe College and Tyndale University, and served as a critical Incident Chaplain for Toronto Fire Services. He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity (honoris causa).
