This course will explore the Doctrine of Providence through readings across three genres: scriptural primary texts, commentaries from the tradition on these texts, treatises on Providence by ancient and modern authors, including up-to-date scholarly writing on the topic. The goal is to arrive at a fuller understanding of the explanatory power of Providence in terms of how it runs like an implicit ideological element throughout the canon of Christian Scripture, as well as recognising the limits of its discourse. In terms of thematic content, the emphasis will be on the experience of 'this life under God' as on the glorious goal of the people of God.
This course will be taught in a hybrid format, with some cousres in-person on campus and others taught remote synchronously. The full schedule will be posted soon.
