Residence FAQs

Sep 2021: Wycliffe College is committed to serving the needs and ensuring the safety of our residence during the pandemic. Please visit the our COVID info page for the latest Residence information.

The application specifies that I need to have a referee submit a reference letter on my behalf in order to complete my application. What kind of reference are you looking for?

Referees must be someone who can testify to the applicant's ability to live and/or work well with others (and who is not related to the applicant). Usually a letter from a previous landlord, employer, or roommate will suffice. A reference letter describing only your academic abilities does not fulfill the requirements, nor does a letter from a future academic supervisor who does not yet know you personally.

Does Wycliffe offer any married student and/or family housing?

Wycliffe does have a few apartments available for married students with or without children. Usually only applicants enrolled in a course of studies at Wycliffe are admitted. To apply, contact our Facilities and Space Manager for more information. Please be aware that there is great demand for these few apartments, and it is recommended that applicants consider other housing options, as well. The U of T also has student family housing available.

What is included in the meal plan?

The meal plan is a declining balance which allows residents the flexibility to eat according to their needs and schedule.

Can I opt out of the meal plan and prepare my own meals?

Unfortunately, residents are not able to opt out of paying for the meal plan, but if they wish to prepare their own meals, two kitchens are available on each residence floor for this purpose.

I am a vegetarian. Can the meal plan be adapted to my needs?

The Refectory always offers a vegetarian entrée option in addition to the regular entrée. The evening meal also features a sizeable salad bar.

I have some food allergies and require a special diet. Can the meal plan be adapted to my needs?

Unfortunately, logistics prevent the chefs from being able to prepare special meals for certain individuals, and Wycliffe is unable to guarantee that the food prepared is free of certain allergy-causing foods (such as nuts). It is the resident's responsibility to inquire with the chefs as to what food items may contain ingredients they need to avoid.

My religion requires that I have a special diet. Can the meal plan be adapted to my needs?

Unfortunately, logistics prevents the chefs from being able to prepare special meals for certain individuals, and Wycliffe is unable to guarantee that the food has been prepared according to religious restrictions.

I have a strong aversion to certain foods. Can the meal plan be adapted to my needs?

Unfortunately, logistics prevent the chefs from being able to prepare special meals for certain individuals. It is the resident's responsibility to inquire with the chefs as to what food items may contain ingredients they need to avoid.

How will meals be made available during the COVID?

Wycliffe College will be following government and U of T guidelines on how many people can congregate so we ask residents to eat their meals only with their fellow pod members. As guidelines change the method of delivery of meals will also change. Currently on Wednesday of the week residents will receive an email with a link to a food survey that will need to be filled out and submitted. The food survey will ask what the resident wants for breakfast and suppers of the following week. Meals will be available for pickup in the refectory at the times the resident checked off on the survey.

Does Wycliffe offer parking?

There are a limited number of parking spots available at the college, and applicants are able to specify on the application form if they would like to request one. However, applicants should be aware that demand sometimes exceeds availability. Alternative parking arrangements can be made through the University of Toronto parking, or St. Michael's College.
