During Advent, we slow down, reflect and wait in hopeful expectancy for the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. From November 16 at 4 p.m. to November 19 at 8 a.m. (EST), ACORN, ROSI Alumni Transcripts, Degree Explorer, MyRes & VBRS will be unavailable. U of T is upgrading ACORN to improve performance for faster registration. As one of the largest university-wide initiatives, the project has involved converting 2 million lines of code to Java and replacing a mainframe server with Linux blade servers. The American Academy of Religion brings thousands of professors and students, authors and publishers, religious leaders and interested laypersons to its Annual Meeting each year. Co-hosted with the Society of Biblical Literature, the Annual Meetings are the largest events of the year in the fields of religious studies and theology. Some 10,000 people are expected for the 2018 Annual Meetings from Nov 17-20 in Denver, Colorado, where more than 1,000 academic sessions and additional meetings will be offered. Wycliffe students and faculty will also be there to present their papers.
Each year, Wycliffe College remembers Rev. Charles Sadleir (pictured in one of the stained glass windows in Founders' Chapel) who graduated from Wycliffe College in 1892. After three years of parish ministry in Manitoba, Rev. Sadleir responded to an appeal for a missionary to Chile's Araucanian Indians. In his honour, the Sadleir Annual Lecture focuses on Christian missions. On Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. in the College’s Reading Room, Mwita Akiri, Bishop of Tarime, Tanzania and Research Professor of Missiology and African History will deliver this year's Sadleir Lecture. Wycliffe College PhD Candidate David Clark has had a peer-reviewed article published by the Scottish Journal of Theology (an imprint of Cambridge University Press). David's article, "Psalm 74:8 and November 1938: rereading Dietrich Bonhoeffer's Kristallnacht annotation in its interpretive context" establishes the context of Bonhoeffer's figural approach to the Psalter. In so doing, he addresses the question of the theological claim Bonhoeffer might have been making about the tragic events of November 1938.
