Dear Friends, In what seems to be an epidemic of scandal in the Church, we were grieved to learn that Mark MacDonald has given up his post as National Indigenous Anglican Archbishop and has relinquished the exercise of ordained ministry on account of acknowledged sexual misconduct. Mark is a graduate of this College and a friend to many of us, and he has been a vital part of our teaching and mission. This news is shocking and heartbreaking on many levels. Our community is eagerly anticipating our first in-person convocation since 2019 on Monday, May 9. Seating will be limited in Sheraton Hall—with masking and physical distancing in place—but the ceremony will also be live streamed, beginning at 4:45 p.m ., for those unable to attend in person. For over 15 years, Rob Henderson has been an integral and beloved member of the Wycliffe College community, joining us first in 2006 as Director of Development, and then a decade later, taking on the role of Executive Director when Peter Patterson retired. Rob worked under three Principals and, in his time, the College’s assets have nearly tripled and the number of alumni contributing to the work of the College has doubled. On Tuesday, May 3, Wycliffe College will award the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, with a Doctor of Divinity honoris causa . In a ceremony that will be live-streamed from Wycliffe's Sheraton Hall, former Principal George Sumner will present the Archbishop for the degree, which will be conferred by Principal Stephen Andrews with Board Chair Carol Boettcher. Wycliffe College is pleased to announce that Dr Lissa Wray Beal will join the faculty as Professor of Old Testament on August 1, 2022. Her appointment concludes a six-month search during which a committee with representatives from the College, the Toronto School of Theology, and the University of Toronto reviewed more than two dozen applications for the position.
